A mobile teleprompter for Android can improve video communication

A conventional teleprompter is a device that allows a video speaker to continuously look directly into a camera while reading a script, ie without ever needing to look away from the camera (in order to read the script somewhere else like a piece of paper). Specifically, it uses mirrors to project the  presenter's script onto a transparent panel in front of a video camera lens thereby keeping the text hidden from the camera. It is commonly used by news anchors, politicians and other public speakers. Its value is that it allows audience to feel better connected with the speaker because the teleprompter allows the speaker to maintain eye contact.

However, the increased use of vlogging and video marketing communication, especially when the presenter is 'on the go' required a mobile, light weight teleprompting solution. Nano Teleprompter is a product that offers one such solution. Anyone with only a smartphone video camera can use it. Here is a very quick rundown.

Advantages of Nano Teleprompter

  • Can be used with only a phone that has a video camera.
  • Has an adjustable floating widget that you can use while using the phone camera. You can resize and drag the window freely.
  • Adjustable margins and space between lines
  • Has adjustable delay, ie you can delay the scrolling for a specific number of seconds
  • Allows you to pinch to make the text bigger, and drag from the corner to change the window size
  • You can open any text file directly in the floating widget. In your file explorer open a text file and choose Nano Teleprompter to open it or just select some text and press share, then select Nano Teleprompter. it will automatically open your camera app too.
  • Highlight important phrases just select the phrase and then the color.
  • Custom colors and opacity for the text and the background
  • It can be used with any camera app Unlike other teleprompter apps this app can be used with any camera app in landscape and portrait mode.
  • It has a 'float text' function that allows you to drag the text anywhere over your screen. The ideal location is as close to the camera lens as possible so your audience will not see evidence that you are reading a script.
  • Allows you to overlay script on other apps like live stream apps (for Instagram, Facebook and so on).
  • Allows you to setup with external equipment, ie other than your phone.
  • Is sold at a relatively low one-off amount.

How to Add & Edit Subtitles Closed Captions CC to YouTube Videos

How to add and edit subtitles closed captions cc to Youtube videosSubtitles or closed captions (CC) contain the text of the audible content in the video, like spoken words, unspoken sounds (like applause and laughter).

Subtitles and closed captions are advantageous because their inclusion makes your content available to a larger audience, including deaf or hard of hearing viewers and even those who speak foreign languages / languages not spoken in the video. Additionally, they provide more metadata with which YouTube can rank your video better than otherwise.

Fortunately, if you select the option, YouTube will automatically generate them for you. However, you will likely need to edit them with spelling corrections, punctuation and non-verbal details.

Access Subtitles in YouTube

  • Sign in to your Youtube 'Studio Dashboard' and select 'Videos'.
  • From the left menu, select 'Subtitles'
  • Click the video you’d like to edit.
  • Select your language from the SELECT LANGUAGE drop down menu. Click CONFIRM.

Promotional Video for Small Business Success

Step 1: Set goals and objectives for your promotional video
  • Common examples of goals include the following. This goal should be the story that every video element should help tell.
    • to build brand awareness. Remember to include your unique value proposition and brand story line.
    • to promote product awareness. Include your unique selling point.
    • to train staff about the importance of doing X
    • to sell product X (if to promote sales, keep the length within 2 minutes).
  • Be clear about your target audience, especially if the audience is a narrow segment with special circumstances and needs. Think psychographics! You must keep these in mind so that you can respond directly as if speaking to each individual personally. If possible, allow a 'character' who is relatable to your target audience be the protagonist, through whose eyes your audience will vicariously experience your product.

  • Create a rough plan with a shot list. Every shot should contribute directly to your goal.
    • opening shot. This shot usually shows the brand visually. A common way is showing the logo, homepage or store front for brick and mortar businesses. This shot should not be too busy and should therefore have limited movement or changes in frame.
    • emotionally charged shot(s) show the emotional result your product provides and not just product itself. For instance, rather than showing a box of your chocolates, this shot will show a child's or lover's face lights up. It shows people people holding hands on a cozy bench having quiet quality time.
    • b-roll. B-roll is supplemental footage that supports the main shot. Think of b-roll as digital atmospherics that portray the particular theme or message. For instance, while a woman speaks of how the dark cocoa flavor of your chocolate makes her feel better on rainy days, b-roll may show her having some quality alone time in a bathtub surrounded by candles, petals and, of course, the partly open wrapper of your chocolate. Maybe she writes in her journal before smiling.
  • Establish measures of promotional success. Examples include a target number of views or instances of some type of engagement.

Step 2: Gather equipment for shooting your promotional video

  • Recording devices may be smartphones or other camera. Other ideals include some means of stabilizing the camera like a tripod or a nearby desk.
  • Video editing software

Step 3: Record the promotional video

  • Find a a recording environment that is relevant and appealing to the target audience
  • Ensure the environment will be free of interruptions or other elements that will detract from your presentation. For instance, avoid distracting ambient sounds like traffic and dogs barking or unpleasant sights like an untidy living room and dirty laundry
  • Use a location that has lots of natural lighting
  • Keep the content relevant and concise. If you need to avoid going off on tangents, pin a few bullet point keywords next to the camera. However, do not read from a script.
  • Be easy on yourself. Most people master a presentation by recording it in multiple short parts rather than attempting one long perfect clip
  • Allow a few seconds before and after content for editing purposes
  • Do and review a practice take. See how it can be improved.
  • Always end with a call to action (CTA)
  • Have fun

Step 4: Post-production of your promotional video

  • Attach branding. A common example is to embed your logo in a corner

Add Images into Video with synced sound in Movie Maker

Sometimes, you import an audiovisual video into Movie Maker. Let us say, the visual includes a man reading behind a desk. He is describing conceptsand people that the can be more relatable with their own visual representation. Movie Maker will allow you to run the sound of his voice continuously throughout your presentation, while switching the visual presentation between him behind his desk and images of people and diagrams.

This involves uploading the same movie into Movie Maker twice. The first and second versions will be visual-only and audio-only respectively. This method assumes that you only have one file, the movie file.

1. Upload the first version into Movie Maker
  • Mute the video
    • Select the 'edit' tab
    • Double click the speaker icon
    • Change the volume slider to the mute position
  • Save the project in Movie Maker

2Upload the second version
  • Go into the 'home' tab
  • Select 'add music ...'
  • When you go into the folder, the video will not appear as a audio file. To see it, change the file format in the bottom right corner above the 'Open' and 'Cancel' buttons of the 'Add music' dialog box. Specifically, change the format to 'vdeos (*wmv ....). The video will appear.
  • Select the video. It will insert itself as a perfectly aligned audio track into the project.

3Insert images
This step involves removing the video from the original cut and then replacing it with the image for precisely the same amount of time.

  • Find the location within the video where the image must be inserted
  • Right click and select the option to 'split' the video.
  • Note the precise time within the video
  • Find the location where the image should no longer be displayed
  • Right click and select 'split. Like before, note the precise time of the split
  • Click the segment to be removed and click 'delete'
  • In 'home', select 'insert photos'. Choose the image to be inserted
  • Drag the image into the slot where you have created a space.
  • Calculate the time of the now missing visual of the man at his desk. Apply this time to the image being used as a replacement. To do this, double click the image and enter the duration.
