STEP 1 (How to Generate Google Analytics ID and code)
- Signup and or log in to Google Analytics
- Click 'Access Google Analytics' button
- Within Google Analytics, click on 'Admin' (in top horizontal menu)
- If you have a pre-existing account, its name will appear on the button in the 'Account' column. If you want to create a new account, click the drop down menu, then choose 'create new account', fill in the fields then click 'ok'. BEWARE, if you have a pre-existing accounting and do not create new accounts when going to the next step, the new websites will be reported as sub-folders within the account.
- Within the 'Property' mid-section, click the drop down menu, then choose 'create new property'
- Complete the fields like 'URL' (of your site), etc ... Click OK
- A new page will appear with the following elements:
- A tracking ID. This number usually begins with characters like "UA-". This Google Analytics ID will need to be used in the following step for Google blogs and sites.
- a box headed that is headed with text that reads "This is your tracking code". You will now want to copy and paste it into every page that you wish to track. This Google Analytics code will need to be used in the following step for non-Google sites
STEP 2 (How to install Google Analytics ID and code onto your website or blog)
This sub-section of part 2 explains how to install the Google Analytics ID to a Google Blogger blog.
- Log in to your Google Blogger account and select the blog to be tracked
- Select 'settings', then 'Other'
- At the bottom of the page and in the section labeled 'Google Analytics: Analytics Web Analytics Web Property ID', paste the tracking code.
- Click the 'save settings' button
This sub-section of part 2 explains how to install Google Analytics ID to a Google sites
- Log in to your Google sites account
- Click the 'properties' icon to the top right corner of the page, i.e. the icon that has a drop down menu arrow on one side
- Choose 'Manage Site' under the 'Site Actions' section of the drop down menu
STEP 3
After completing the steps above, you can start to track your blog or website traffic with Google Analytics right away.
- Go to the 'home' page of Google Analytics
- Click 'Access Google Analytics' button
- A list of your blogs and or sites should appear. Click on the name of the site or blog that you wish Google Analytics to track
