How to change wireless settings like password network name SSID etc on Smart RG modems

how to change settings on wireless modem SMART RG
Wireless Smart RG modem
This is the standard process for accessing and altering the settings for Smart RG modems. It might vary slightly among modem manufacturers. Once you have correctly accessed the Smart RG page, you will be able to do several tasks that include the ability to change the password of your wireless network, change the name of your wireless network (aka SSID) and hide your wireless network (aka SSID) so that others can not easily detect it when searching for wireless networks.

  • Connect the computer and modem by a yellow internet cable (aka the 'category 5' network cable) to the internet

  • In the browser URL window, type in the IP address that is specific to your individual modem as pictured below. (Find your IP address on your computer, like in the 'System Preferences' of an Apple Mac. It should be stated as your 'Router Number' and ends '.1' since your and other computers will each have sequentially higher numbers. Alternatively, ask your internet service provider). The format looks like this 127.123.1.1/admin or 127.123.1.1/. Notice the direction of the slash at the end.

  • If you have entered the IP address correctly, the following dialog box should appear. Enter the username and password as follows.

username:   admin
password:   admin    *** NB. Some service providers create a password specific to them. If this 'admin' password does not work, access the password from your service providers). Example, Lime's password is Adm1n@L1m3#

  • If you have completed the step above correctly, the Smart RG interface of your wireless modem will appear.

  • Within this interface, you can do some of the following tasks:
  • change the wireless network password
  • click 'Wireless' and then the 'Security' links in the left vertical panel
  • Enter the new password into the field named "WPA/WAPI passphrase
  • Click the 'Apply / Save' button to save the change to the wireless network password
  • change (and, as an option, to hide) the name of your wireless network (aka SSID)

  • click 'Wireless' and then the 'Basic' links in the left vertical panel
  • Enter the new network name (aka SSID name) in the 'SSID' field
  • As an option, you can hide the network name (aka SSID name) by ticking the 'hide access point' field
