What Next After Running the Avast Virus Scans on My Mac?

I finally called the Avast Free Antivirus team. I never quite knew how to interpret Avast scan reports and, most importantly what to do with the many Avast scan reports I often ran.. .

My question to Avast Technical Support Representative

After running a scan, I do not understand the items on the Avast antivirus report. the details are gibberish. What action should I take after running the Avast free antivirus report? Does Avast clean my computer and automatically removes the risk?

Answer by Avast Technical Support representative

As the report indicates, the yellow triangles in Avast free antivirus reports (pictured here in the far right corner) represent 'warnings' of potential threats. Specifically, this Avast free antivirus report simply informs you of the potential threats against which Avast is already automatically protecting your computer. It should ne stressed that this free antivirus program does NOT clean up the root problem. Rather, a skilled technician (whether or not from the Avast Technical Team) must investigate each threat listed 'warning' and find a solution for 'cleaning up' the underlying problems (whether malaware or other problem). In other words, the problem still exists and this 'clean up' is still required to completely eliminate the problem that causes the threat...

You may choose to do nothing if the threat is not sufficiently significant. However, some cases will require very specific action. If the Avast warning is sufficiently serious, your technician will need to perform 'clean ups' that even involves reformatting your Mac to the factory settings.

As a rule of thumb, regular use home Mac computers require your technician to do a 'cleanup' roughly biannually. Conversely, business Mac computers require a 'cleanup' quarterly.

If you choose to use the Avast technical support team, the details of their technical support services are as follows.

Cost for ongoing support from the Avast Technical Support Team

USD 179.00 for year 1 and USD 85.00 for subsequent years if you request renewal before the current subscription ends. USD 119.00 for one-off sessions. These costs applied in June 2014.
