If your Apple mac computer (OSX 10.2 or later) is not working normally, you may still be able to boot and use tit in the 'safe mode'. The safe mode is a stripped-down version that runs on only the essential features. Consequently, the safe mode is useful for troubleshooting and accessing files when your Apple mac computer is not working properly.
- Ensure that the computer is shut down for at least a few seconds
- Power up the computer
- Upon hearing the start up chiming sound, hold down the 'Shift' button
- Your Apple mac will now begin in safe mode
- Note that, as the stripped-down version of your operating system, some programs (like iMovie, the DVD player, audio input and output devices, internal or external USB modems and so on) may not work.
